How to Apply for India e-Visa for Foreign Nationals

Check e-Visa Eligibility

Visit indianvisaonline.gov.in and verify that your nationality is eligible for e-Visa. Citizens of 165+ countries are eligible. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from arrival date.

Fill the Online Application

Select visa type (e-Tourist, e-Business, or e-Medical). Fill in personal details, travel information, and purpose of visit. Upload a recent passport-size photo and the bio-data page of your passport.

Pay the e-Visa Fee

Fee varies by nationality and visa type. Pay using credit/debit card or net banking. Keep the payment receipt. The fee is non-refundable even if the visa is rejected.

Wait for Approval (2–5 Business Days)

After submission, you will receive an email with your application reference number. The e-Visa is typically processed within 2–5 business days. Apply at least 4 days before your travel date.

Download and Print ETA

Once approved, download the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Print two copies and carry them when travelling to India. Present ETA at immigration along with your passport.

  • Valid passport with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank pages
  • Recent colour photograph (white background, 80% face coverage)
  • Scanned bio-data page of passport
  • Return/onward journey ticket (recommended)
  • Proof of sufficient funds

How many times can I enter India on an e-Tourist Visa?

The e-Tourist Visa allows double entry (for 30-day visa) or multiple entries (for 1-year or 5-year visa). The 30-day visa cannot be extended and no conversion to other visa types is allowed.

Can I extend my India e-Visa after arrival?

No. India e-Visa cannot be extended, converted to a regular visa, or renewed. If you need a longer stay, you must apply for a regular visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission in your country.

Which Indian airports accept e-Visa arrivals?

e-Visa is valid for entry through 28 designated international airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Kochi. It is also valid at 5 designated seaports.
