What are Fancy/VIP Numbers?

Fancy numbers are attractive registration numbers like: 0001, 0007, 0786, 9999, numbers matching your birth year/date (e.g., 1947, 1985), repeating patterns (1111, 2222), memorable sequences (1234, 5678). These are reserved and auctioned by state RTOs. Prices range from ₹5,000 to ₹10+ lakh depending on popularity.

2

Check Available Fancy Numbers

Visit vahan.parivahan.gov.in → "Fancy Number" section. Or visit your state RTO transport portal. Select your state, district, RTO, and vehicle type (new registration). View list of available fancy numbers with reserve prices. Some numbers are in ongoing auctions, some have fixed prices. Numbers reset with new series (e.g., DL01CA → DL01CB).

3

Participate in Auction

Register on Vahan portal or state transport portal. Select number → "Bid" → Enter bid amount (above reserve price). Pay refundable deposit (usually 25% of bid). Auction duration: 5–7 days for online auctions. Highest bidder wins. If you win: Pay remaining amount within specified time. If you lose: Deposit refunded.

Fixed Price Numbers

Some states offer preferred numbers at fixed prices without auction: Silver category (e.g., 0002–0100): ₹15,000–₹40,000. Gold category (e.g., 0001, 0007): ₹50,000–₹2 lakh. First come first served for fixed price numbers. Apply online, pay, and confirm. Number held for 60–90 days while you complete vehicle purchase and registration.

How long is a fancy number held after winning auction?

Once you win a fancy number auction, the number is typically held for 60–90 days (varies by state). During this period, complete your vehicle purchase and submit RC application. If you fail to complete registration in time, the number may be released and auctioned again, and your deposit forfeited. Always confirm the holding period when bidding.
